To help families resolve their differences, I always advise clients to speak in a civilized way to each other and to follow court orders to pay child support and allow visitation. Courts cannot deny visitation merely because a spouse isn’t paying child support.
Additionally, I practice two new areas of family law: stepparent adoptions and grandparent custody.
Stepparent adoptions are sometimes referred to as termination-adoptions, because a natural parent’s rights need to be terminated before a stepparent can adopt a child.
Grandparent custody often starts out informally, with the grandparents taking care of the child because the parent isn’t able to. However, the grandparents cannot provide dependent medical coverage for the grandchild or make decisions about health care without legal custody. In these cases, I help the grandparents obtain guardianship of the grandchild through a court order.
I also help families create wills.
